CANTON, Mass. (AP) — A gruesome animal death is being investigated by police in Massachusetts.

Police say they responded to a call about a dead cat in a parking lot on Arboretum Way in Canton on Saturday morning.

Canton Police Chief Kenneth Berkowitz says officers found a cat bound with its throat slashed.

Detectives have been assigned to the case, and are reviewing evidence. Police are asking anyone with information about the death of the cat to reach out.

No further information is available on the circumstances of the death.

Canton is approximately 20 miles southwest of Boston.
