Natick officials have released that improper disposal of smoking materials caused the February 20th fire, that took the life of 73-year-old Carol McCarthy.
According to officials McCarthy was rescued by the Natick Fire Department through the second floor bedroom, where the fire started. She was then taken to Leonard Morse Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
There were two smoke alarms found in the home, one without a battery and one with a dead battery.
“Fire is a terrible way to lose one of our seniors, which is why the Natick Fire Department has a Senior SAFE program,” Natick Fire Chief Richard A. White said in a press release.
The Senior SAFE program will install smoke and carbon monoxide alarms for seniors.
