A 25-year-old woman is facing charges for allegedly falsely reporting being attacked in Chelsea on Sunday.

Denissa Perez, 25, of Chelsea, is facing charges of misleading a police officer during a criminal investigation, according to police.

Perez is scheduled to appear in Chelsea District Court later in January. Police say additional charges could be filed.

Police say physical evidence was not consistent with digital evidence.

On Sunday, Perez told officers that three men had attacked her as she walked home from work around 9:30 p.m. near the Lynn Street Extension and Central Avenue, according to police. She told police the men punched, kicked her and slashed her with a knife.

After investigating, officers concluded the reported attack never happened, according to police.

Instead, police say several men had been involved in a fight inside an undisclosed address and that Perez suffered injuries as she tried to break up the brawl.

Police say Perez’s reported injuries came from a broken bottle. She also had several other bruises and scrapes.
