WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Police say one child is dead and a woman has been severely injured following a stabbing in a quiet, upscale Connecticut neighborhood.

A second juvenile, who West Hartford Police say was slightly injured, is a suspect in the Monday afternoon incident and is being held in police custody. The victims have not yet been identified, but police say they believe everyone involved lives in the same house.

Captain Michael Perruccio tells the Hartford Courant the motive for the crime is unclear.

West Hartford Police Chief Vernon Riddick tells NBC Connecticut it was a domestic incident and “there’s no threat to the public at this time.”

Police and emergency medical crews were called to the home at 3:28 p.m. for a report of two people stabbed at 187 Stoner Drive.
