Two teens are helping the less fortunate in a healthy way.

Ashley Leconti and Sarah Peltier, eight graders at the Whitcomb Middle School in Marlborough, have joined forces and created a garden to supply fresh produce to the town’s food pantry.

The girls planted tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, squash and bell peppers in their garden. Before the girls could plant the vegetables, they had to do extensive weeding on the garden, which had not been touched in years and was overgrown.

They solicited helped from their families and donations from around the town, including dirt, fencing and wood.

The vegetables were planted around Easter and the teens took turns visiting the garden every day to water and tend to the garden.

Once they had enough vegetables, they brought the food to the food pantry in Marlborough.

Both Leconti and Peltier said the hard work they put into the garden was well worth it.
