PEPPERELL, MASS. (WHDH) - A group of middle school girls in Pepperell did a bravery project on Pakistan teen, Malala Yousafzai.
They were so inspired by her story that their project morphed into an after-school club.
Malala Yousafzai is a young Muslim who stood up and demanded more education for girls, and because of her bravery she was shot by the Taliban.
Malala survived and went on to win the Nobel Peace Prize, the youngest person to receive the award.
Inspired, this group of middle schoolers took their project a step further by creating a club, “Girls Helping Girls,” to raise money for Malala’s fund.
Through bake sales and other fundraisers, they donated more than $1,000 to Malala’s cause, and some plan to see her speak in Providence, Rhode Island in July.
And “Girls Helping Girls” is not finished. Next year they plan on doubling their fundraising efforts all to support the brave girl from Pakistan.
