MANCHESTER, N.H. (WHDH) - Police say a quick-thinking clerk helped stop an attempted robber at a 7-Eleven in Manchester, New Hampshire.

According to officials, a store clerk was working at a 7-Eleven on S. Main Street when a man came into the store and allegedly put two cigarette lighters in his pocket.

The clerk, Richard Winter, asked the man to pay for the lighters. The suspect, later identified as Jarrod Parolisi, 29, told Winter to give him cash from the register and indicated he had a gun.

Winter pressed a panic button under the counter, then grabbed a broom and hit Parolisi several times as the suspect tried to reach the cash register.

Parolisi reportedly left the store, entering a red Cadillac with Massachusetts plates. The car was pulled over a short time later. A passenger, Jeffrey Tucci, 43, was searched and released.

Parolisi was charged with robbery. Police found no weapon. The suspect was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
