Typically, November is the cloudiest and darkest month of the year. Certainly lived up to expectations today as a chilly east wind made sure we barely touched 50 in town. (We’re lucky. Many spots didn’t even get that “warm”.) And the rain? Well, although badly needed, it really kept the sky gloomy.
We’re at the “height” (if we can call it that) of this storm as I type. Moderate pulses of rain have been zipping by over the last couple of hours as they make headway to the Gulf of Maine tonight. As the storm intensifies, it will tap colder air over Northern New England and switch the higher elevations over to snow. Winter Storm Warnings are in pink and Winter Weather Advisories are in purple.
Blustery, cold weather follows tomorrow. Dress like it’s in the 30s, because that’s what it will feel like with the wind.
If you’re looking for something to lift your spirits, I do see some bright weather in the days ahead. Oddly, the low sun angle will give the appearance of cloudier skies, just because any clouds will easily obscure the sunlight. So it goes in this “solar winter”.
Speaking of cold, we have plenty of that in the days ahead. Highs barely make it to 50 tomorrow and Saturday, but there is a mini-warm up in the latter half of the weekend and into early next week. Veterans Day is cooler and the chilly air is still in the pipeline late next week.
