People are being advised to watch out for signs of frostbite, which include the loss of feeling in extremities. In temperatures this cold, frostbite can develop in as little as 10 minutes. Negative temperatures can also bring about hypothermia. Symptoms of hypothermia include uncontrollable shivering, incoherence and apparent exhaustion.
The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency is advising people to limit their time outside and to dress in layers if going out.
