CARIBOU, Maine (AP) — The National Weather Service says Maine is about to experience the coldest temperatures in three years.

Forecasters say the wind chill could make it feel 45 degrees below zero on Friday in parts of northern Maine.

A wind chill warning has been issued for most of the state, meaning people who don't dress properly risk frost bite and hypothermia.

But it's already been plenty cold across the state. WAGM-TV says Caribou hit 28 below early Thursday, breaking the old record of minus-20 for the date.

John Cannon from the weather service office in Gray says the coldest weather will be Friday night. He says it'll be the coldest temperatures since January 2011.

Some parts of the state got from 6 to 8 inches of snow, including almost 8 1/2 inches at the Portland Jetport.
