MIDDLEBORO, MASS. (WHDH) - Five people were killed after a fiery wrong-way crash involving two cars in Middleboro early Monday morning.
Police said a woman was driving the wrong way on the northbound side of I-495 when she crashed head-on into another car with four people inside. That car burst into flames upon impact. All five people were pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police are investigating the crash and are trying to determine why the woman ended up driving on the wrong way of the highway. State Police said the driver who was hit head-on never had a chance to get out of the way.
State Police said the four people in the car that was hit were all students at Massachusetts colleges. Relatives identified two of the victims: 20-year-old Kraig Diggs of Osterville, who attended Anna Maria College in Paxton, and Jordan Fisher, who attended Becker College in Worcester. Two of the victims were recent graduates of Barnstable High School.
The four victims were home on the Cape for the weekend to see family and were heading back to school at the time of the crash.
“He was just a fun-loving kid,” said Kip Diggs, Kraig’s father. “He was just a good kid, he never got in any trouble.” Diggs said his son was planning to major in international business.
A vigil to honor the victims was held Monday evening on the basketball court at Brooks Park in Harwich.
