A grandfather and husband was celebrating his birthday at home in Connecticut when a stray bullet went through the wall and killed him.

Daryl Mcnair had turned 58-years-old Sunday and was inside his house in new Haven playing solitaire when he was shot.

“I want them to know they took a soul, they took a life. He had many years to go,” Mcnair’s stepdaughter Chandra Costin said. “He had the biggest heart. The biggest heart.”

Police converged on the street after reports of shots fired shortly before 2 a.m. Monday.

Witnesses told officers they saw a group of people in the area around the time of the crime, though it’s unclear if there are multiple shooters.

Investigators believe the victim was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, an innocent bystander hit by a stray bullet.
