HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut man already on the state’s sex offender registry for downloading and viewing child pornography has pleaded guilty to new child porn charges.

Stephen Avery, 34, of Canton, will serve five years in prison after pleading guilty under a plea deal Wednesday, the Hartford Courant reported.

Avery pleaded guilty in 2013 to third-degree possession of child pornography and was sentenced to a year in prison and 10 years of probation. He was halfway through that probationary period when a state trooper from the computer crimes unit matched Avery to child pornography downloaded last February.

State police said they served a search warrant at Avery’s home and then found him at his workplace in Waterbury, where he acknowledged downloading and viewing the child pornography.

Prosecutors gave Avery credit for admitting his conduct to police.

A judge sentenced him to 13 years in prison, with five to serve, and the remainder suspended for 20 years of probation.
