BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) — Police say a 16-year-old Connecticut boy shot in the head is expected to recover.

Bridgeport Chief Armando Perez tells the Connecticut Post the Central High School student was shot on Thursday afternoon while riding in a car with friends.

The chief says the group of teens got into an argument with another group and that likely triggered the shooting.

The victim took a fragment of a round to his left shoulder and a fragment of a round to his head. He was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle where he is listed in fair condition.

Perez called the shooting “sad.”

The investigation is being aided by nearby surveillance video, which Perez said should help officers track down potential shooters and make arrests.
