EVERETT, MASS. (WHDH) - Construction on the Wynn Boston Harbor casino in Everett began Thursday when officials broke ground.
Wynn Boston Harbor is set to be the first resort-style casino in Massachusetts. Wynn officials said this will also be the largest private development jobs in New England. Officials said they hope to create 4,000 construction jobs and 4,000 more hospitality positions.
The city of Somerville initially filed a legal appeal on a state environmental permit, citing concerns about how the casino would impact the Mystic River and environment. This week, the city chose not to appeal the Department of Environmental Protection’s decision to grant the permit.
The casino is set to open in 2019.
