BOSTON (AP) — A convicted felon who threatened to attack a Massachusetts police department and had an assault weapon has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison.
The U.S. Department of Justice says 32-year-old Brendan Sheils, of Burlington, was sentenced after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of ammunition.
Authorities say police learned in February that Sheils was in possession of an “Uzi bump stock weapon” and wanted to attack the Burlington Police Department.
Police conducted a search of the man’s home and found 30 pieces of ammunition and an AR-15-type rifle.
Authorities say the weapon was a “ghost gun,” which is a weapon made of component parts that are pieced together.
Sheils was also sentenced to three years of supervised release.
