METHUEN, Mass. (AP) — Police in Methuen say a would-be burglar has been captured after he leapt from a third-floor window during an escape attempt and broke his leg on the paved sidewalk below.

Police say 36-year-old Juan Ocasio was captured Saturday in a nearby yard, writhing in pain and yelling for help.

Police Capt. Randy Haggar told the Eagle-Tribune that Ocasio told him he didn't realize he was on the third floor when he jumped.

Ocasio was one of three people charged in the alleged break-in. Police say they were tipped off when a neighbor called 911 after seeing several masked men break into an apartment.

Three men were being held on $50,000 cash bail pending their arraignments in the case, scheduled for Monday.

It could not be immediately determined Monday if Ocasio had an attorney.
