SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Police in Vermont say a couple is accused of forcing a driver out of a car at gunpoint in South Burlington.

Police say the man and woman flagged down a vehicle and forced the driver out Thursday morning. Then they allegedly fled in the vehicle before it was abandoned. Police caught up with them shortly afterward, and a stun gun was used on the man.

Staff at the nearby Vermont Gift Barn and Gallery said police told them to evacuate.

The suspects were identified as 41-year-old Joseph Rougier and 37-year-old Starr Lafountaine, both of Burlington. They faced charges of assault and robbery, and carrying a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony. Both were due in court Friday; it wasn’t immediately known if they had lawyers.
