BOSTON (AP) — The highest court in Massachusetts has reversed the first-degree murder conviction of a woman for her alleged role in the fatal shooting of a Lawrence man.
Cauris Gonzalez was convicted of being the driver who dropped off four men near an intersection in Lawrence seconds before they opened fire on a minivan, killing Robert Gonzalez. The two are not related.
The Supreme Judicial Court ruled Monday there was not enough evidence for the jury to find that she was the driver. The court also said there wasn’t enough evidence for the jury to conclude beyond a reasonable doubt that she shared the intention to kill Gonzalez.
The court said Gonzalez was killed about 16 hours after punching Cauris Gonzalez’s boyfriend during an argument, knocking out one of his teeth.
