ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (NBC) — An eerie trend that has hit the nation is now scaring parents and students in St. Joseph, Missouri.

A reported clown was sending messaged and threatening young children.

Ethan Shipps, 13, was one of the students who received weird messages from the accounts all disguised as clowns.

“I was shocked and surprised, I didn’t know what to think because I didn’t know what he wanted,” said Ethan Shipps, who received messages from the clown online. “I didn’t know why he was messaging me,” he added.

He said his friends were also receiving messages from the clowns.

The messages said things like, “I’m coming for you and your friends.”

Some of the messages went as far to make a threat against the school district itself.

“They said they were going to the high school and kidnap the kids and kill the teachers walking to their cars and stuff,” said Shipps.

He said some students stayed home from school on Friday.

The school district had extra police on its campuses but didn’t find any credibility to the treat.

The situation was still a scary time for the young students affected.

The school district said there were no problems on Friday.
