FITCHBURG, MASS. (WHDH) - Crews battled a fire at a Fitchburg home on Saturday.

The flames were seen shooting from the roof with thick smoke pouring out.

The fire started at the home after 7 p.m.

The two people who live there were not home.

One police officer was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Officials say he should be OK.

First responders were able to save two dogs from the home.

Firefighters worked through the winter weather to put the fire out.

Fitchburg Fire Department estimated about $150,000 worth of damage.
