PLUM ISLAND, MA (WHDH) — Firefighters responded to a large fire on Plum Island over the weekend.

On Sunday, Aug. 14 around 7:30 p.m. firefighters responded to 59th Street on Plum Island for a reported fire at a three-story home.

When officers arrived, they found heavy fire on the second and third floors, which extended into the attic and through the roof.

Residents were home but were safely evacuated.

Extreme heat caused problems for firefighters, with heat exhaustion a major concern.

The home suffered an estimated $500,000 in damage.

Firefighters remained on scene until 1:30 a.m.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is believed to be caused by an electrical failure on the second floor of the home.
