DORCHESTER, N.H. (WHDH) - DORCHESTER, Mass. (WHDH) – Emergency crews had to close off a few blocks in Dorchester Tuesday night after four manhole covers exploded.

It happened around 9 p.m. on Washington Street as a result of an electrical failure along power lines running under the street.

Officials said after the first manhole cover exploded, three more down the line followed.

Eversource was forced to cut power to some of the street.

Power has since been restored and the street is open, but crews are still on scene.

At one point the basement of a nearby house filled with smoke, but no injuries were reported.
