NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. (WHDH) - Authorities are investigating an incident at a home in North Andover on Monday that left two people dead, officials said.
Officers responding to a reported incident at a home on Turnpike Street found two victims, one who was pronounced dead and another who was transferred to the hospital with serious injuries, where they were later pronounced dead, according to the Essex District Attorney’s Office.
7NEWS sources say the victims were a mother and her infant.
“It’s very disturbing,” said Tom Anthony, who lives in the area. “I have children, I have grandchildren, it’s just sad. I pray for the victims right now.”
The large crime scene shut down Route 114 for hours Monday.
“You’re taken aback,” Anthony said. “You’re coming back from work and 114 is shut down, and you have something like this.”
North Andover Police and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Office of Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker are in the early stages of an active investigation.
Police and fire officials were on scene starting around 5:30 p.m. Monday, with crime scene tape wrapping around the house and investigators going in and out.
Seeing such a tragic incident unfolding left many shaken up.
“It’s scary to know in a town like North Andover, it just kind of goes to show you it doesn’t matter where you live,” said Katrina MacLean, who lives nearby. “Stuff like this can happy anywhere.”
The district attorney’s office has not said anything about a suspect or if there have been any arrests.
