A Dorchester father is being called a hero after he saved his daughter and friend from serious injury after they were hit by a car Tuesday night.
Ernesto Camacho’s sister-in-law Elena Camacho said his first instinct was to get his daughter out of the way when a car came barreling towards them on Blue Hill Avenue. Camacho and his 10-year-old daughter were taking their 22-year-old friend who uses a wheelchair to the bus stop when they crossed the street. A witness said the tan Toyota looked like it was stopping but instead drove right towards them.
“It doesn’t surprise me that getting her out of the way and his other friend out of the way was his first concern,” said Elena Camacho.
Camacho, who works as a security guard, took the brunt of the impact. All three were taken to the hospital; Camacho’s friend sustained minor injuries and his daughter suffered a broken hip, knee and ankle. Camacho suffered the most severe injuries and remains hospitalized with severe head injuries.
“He really took one for his family. He is one hell of a father,” said Elena Camacho. She said he is off a respirator and they are waiting to see what the extent of his brain injuries are.
Elena Camacho said her niece keeps asking for her father, saying he saved her life.
So far, no charges have been filed.
