Dane Cook once did a promo for Major League Baseball professing…”There’s Only One October!” Sorry pal, not here. Mid October…..always neat when looking back at past weather this time of year as our record highs run in the 80s & our record lows dip into the low 30s—in fact…October 18, 2009…..1-3″ of snow fell across metro west/south (it was a Sunday & the Pats blew up the Titans in the snow!). What gives?! Well, the month is a classic transition summer to winter scenario where both seasons can & do make themselves known in New England—often within days of each other. Monday morning our lows were in the 30s and yet today we make a healthy run at 80 under a partly sunny sky.
Tomorrow is moving day. A strong, slow moving storm plows into New England and this storm will move the late summer weather out of the way. The result will be clouds, showers & even some tropical downpours. The timing is looking like afternoon & evening which spares the AM commute but plan on a slow go late tomorrow afternoon-evening. Heading to Gillette will also be a slow go and when you get there, have the rain gear as showers/downpours occur for much of the night. The only saving grace about tomorrow night’s rain is the relative warmth…kickoff temps near 70. Some years, those October rainstorms can keep temps in the 40s for a football game (and as noted earlier..even snow). Most towns pick up between 1-2″ of rain by late Thursday Night.
Drier weather returns Friday and lingers for the weekend. A general cooling trend also occurs as temps on Friday are near 70 but only in the upper 50s by Sunday afternoon.
