BOSTON (AP) — The mad dash to the starting line of the 2017 Boston Marathon is just around the corner.

The Boston Athletic Association says registration for prequalified runners will open at 10 a.m. EDT on Sept. 12 and continue on a rolling basis until the field limit is reached.

Organizers will decide later this summer on the size of the field. Last year, it was capped at 36,000 official entrants.

Runners with the fastest qualifying times in their gender and age groups will be able to register first for the 121st edition of the marathon, starting on Sept. 12 with those who ran 20 minutes or faster than they needed to qualify.

Race day is April 17, 2017 — the Patriots’ Day holiday in Massachusetts.
