MIDDLEBURY, CT (WHDH) — Connecticut State Police raced to the rescue after a car crashed into a rock wall and went up in flames on Interstate 84 in Middlebury.
The first sergeant arrived on scene just minutes after the crash and found two good Samaritans working to help free the trapped driver.
That officer grabbed a fire extinguisher from his cruiser to help put out the flames, but the fire continued to burn.
Two more troopers arrived on scene to assist, and together, they freed the driver by smashing in a window and carrying him to safety.
The 26-year-old from New York was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The two troopers were also treated for minor cuts on their hands that they got when they smashed the window.
