Back to back days of dreary weather? While we haven’t said that much lately, that is the forecast today as a chilly northeast wind prevails as showers pivot back into New England. Not only will the showers stick around today, but also we have more rain in the forecast for tonight.
While it’s terrible weather for the soccer games and tee times, it’s great weather for the soccer fields and golf courses as the grass will gladly drink up what Mother Nature offers. We’ve been quite dry over the last couple of months, in fact, with only 0.70″ of rain in Boston for September, it was the 11th driest September on record. Blue Hill observatory only picked up about a third of an inch of rain, making it the driest September on record there.
Many locations are running 4-6″ behind in the rainfall department over the past couple months, and now’s the time to chip away at that deficit. With this latest bout of rain, most towns pick up 0.50-1.00″ of beneficial water by early tomorrow morning. That’s a general range, however, the steering winds that guide this storm along are slow, so a few towns likely pick up locally higher amounts in any slow moving downpour that is generated. While it’s hard to pin point exact towns, the South Shore and Cape are likely locations to overachieve in the rainfall department through tonight is heavier bands develop.
The pattern remains cool Thursday and Friday with Friday being the brighter of the two days.
The weekend is a 50/50 split as a front with showers drops another 0.50″ of rain or so, on us Saturday afternoon. Sunday is brighter, breezy and seasonably cool with highs in the 60s.
