The Australians quickly took a four point lead in the first set with no response from the Swiss women. Forrer/Verge-Depre rallied back before Australia took the first set 21-19. In the second set, teams paired at 6-6 before the Swiss pulled away by three points. Forrer/Verge-Depre continued to widen the gap, taking the second set 21-16.
Both teams lost their first match of preliminary play. The Australians fell to USA’s Walsh Jennings/Ross while Ferre/Verge-Depre (SUI) fell to China’s Wang/Yue.
