With monthly average temperatures coming in at over 8 degrees above normal in Boston and over 9 degrees (!) above normal in Worcester, the idea of a white Christmas is a real knee-slapper right now. I think it’s a little more realistic to toss around the idea of it getting closer to normal in the long range.

And that’s just what may happen as we head into the weekend, but in the meantime, we’re looking at another bombastic warm spell.

60s are poised just to our west and the warmer air will not be denied a visit to New England. Rain is pushing a warm front through New England, and while we sleep, the temps will surge to the low 60s. By morning, the rain will be gone and the sun breaking through the clouds. We’ll enter phase 2 of this storm system which includes a slow slide in the temperatures tomorrow afternoon and a lot of gusty wind.

Normally, I would qualify this as a run-of-the-mill windy day, but since the winds have been so still lately, there’s a good chance the trees will be tested and some limbs will come down. This could give us some brief, isolated power outages, but it’s not looking like widespread blackouts.

Cooler – but still above normal – air will arrive by midweek, then we’ll see some more wet weather into the latter half of the workweek.

That colder air over the weekend will have us struggling to meet the 40 degree mark, but it will also be short-lived. The warmth is just too overwhelming in this pattern.
