A disabled man in Florida was reunited with his missing dog, thanks to his community and the local police department.

Kevin Young’s poodle-cocker spaniel mix, named Poupee, got loose a month ago while a friend was dog-sitting. Word got to police through a Facebook post and they alerted city employees to be on the lookout. Someone finally spotted Poupee on Thursday and Holly Hill Police Lt. Chris Yates chased after the dog for 15 minutes.

Police brought Poupee back to Young, who choked back tears as he was reunited with his constant companion.

"This is why I got into law enforcement, helping someone like this," said Yates.

Young said he will not let his dog out of his sight again but is thankful that he has new friends in the police department to help if anything happens.

"It shows me there’s a lot of good people in this world," said Young. "Going above and beyond your call, you know. I just can’t thank you guys enough."
