(WHDH) — Doctors are talking about the do’s and don’ts when it comes to handling Thanksgiving leftovers.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, most food will last three to four days in the refrigerator if it is packed correctly.
They recommended that you do these three things to preserve those leftovers:
- Use air-tight, shallow containers to store them.
- Bring the food back to room temperature before putting it away.
- Break down the turkey and take the meat off the bone prior to storing it in the refrigerator.
The doctors also listed a few rules on what you should not do with this food:
- Don’t just put foil over a plate of food and put it in the fridge. Not storing it in a container can allow bacteria to grow faster.
- Don’t put the entire turkey into the fridge.
