Two deaths in the United Kingdom have prompted the recall of about 34,500 motorized stair lifts in the United States.
Acorn Stairlifts is recalling five versions of the Acorn Superglide 120 model.
The seat post can separate from the main seat support, posing a fall hazard.
These mechanical chairs are installed on residential staircases to transport people with reduced mobility up and down stairs.
Acorn Stairlifts and authorized dealers nationwide sold the chairs from March 2007 to December 2011.
Consumers should contact Acorn for a free in-home repair.

Delta Air Lines has plans to radically change the way it handles rewards in its SkyMiles Frequent Flier Program.
Come next year, the carrier plans to become the first of the "big three" U.S. airlines to do away with a fixed miles-for-a-free-flight system in favor of a supply and demand rewards program.
JetBlue, Southwest and Virgin America already offer that type of program.
Delta says the number of miles needed for a free flight will change based on destination, demand and other considerations beginning June 1st, 2016.
