Transportation research and lobbying group, TRIP, estimated the nationwide annual cost of driving on bad roads to be about $109 billion.
According to their recently published report, more than a quarter of the nation's major urban roads were in bad condition. The report is based on the latest data available from 2013.
Poor road conditions forced repairs of broken axles, blown tires, and battered shock absorbers. These repairs cost the average urban driver $516 a year.
