SOUTH BOSTON, Mass. (WHDH) — Families of Whitey Bulger’s alleged victims hoped the crime boss would take the stand in court Friday. Instead they were left without answers and the Donahue family is furious.

Immediately after James Whitey Bulger announced his trial was a sham and he would not testify, Patricia Donahue the widow of one of his alleged victims, called Bulger a coward.

Patricia said she wanted to hear about the government corruption she believed ultimately led to her husband, Michael's murder in 1982.

“I think he might have told the truth about some things, yes, because he had nothing to lose and he really wanted to put the government in its place. I don’t know why he didn’t have the nerve to get up there to do that,” said Patricia Donahue wife of alleged Bulger victim.

Patricia and her son Tommy came to court every day and said Bulger isn't the only one with blood on his hands.

“It would have been remarkable to hear Whitey tell all those stories and all the deceit about the FBI,” said Tommy Donahue son of alleged victim.

And there were days in this trial when the Donahues weren't sure which side, the government or the defense, was actually telling the truth in the Bulger case.

“He's going to take a lot of secrets to the grave with him. He's the only one who really knows how high up in the FBI the corruption goes,” Tommy Donahue said.
