The 17-year-old killed outside of his high school in Dorchester was laid to rest Thursday after his funeral.

Hundreds attended Raekwon Brown’s funeral at the Charles Street African Methodist Episcopal Church, including Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and State Sen. Sonia Chang Diaz. After the service, loved ones wrote messages to Brown on white balloons and released them into the air as a tribute.

Family members said Brown had good grades, a near-perfect attendance record and planned to pursue a career in music. He was known to friends as Ray Ray and “Teddy Bear” and was the youngest of 11 children. His family said he will be met in heaven by his twin sister.

“He was a very good kid, it’s unfortunate that this tragedy had to happen,” said Brown’s cousin Darryl Lowe.

Rev. Dwayne Frazier was met with cheers during his eulogy when he called for a change to violence. Brown’s casket was placed in a horse-drawn carriage after the funeral and was buried at a cemetery in Roslindale.

Brown was shot and killed last week outside of Jeremiah Burke High School, where he was a junior. No one has been arrested in connection with the shooting. Family members expressed disappointment and concern that a suspect has not been arrested.
