BOSTON (WHDH) - A Dorchester man accused of killing a woman while driving drunk was in court Tuesday, where he was arraigned on several charges.

Police said Anthony Buchanan, 39, was drunk and speeding when he hit and killed 46-year-old Johnette Sims in Mattapan Saturday night. He then allegedly drove off.

Buchanan was charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence and leaving the scene of a collision causing death. He was also cited for speeding and a marked lane violation.

Sims’s family, including her mother and sons, were in court Tuesday as Buchanan was arraigned. Her mother, Rosemary Sloan-Sims, said despite losing her daughter, she has forgiven Buchanan.

“Not forgiving him would hurt me more than holding a grudge,” said Sloan-Sims.

Buchanan is due back in court next month.
