COTUIT, Mass. (WHDH) – The Fall River driver accused of causing a deadly crash in Cotuit that killed a young father was out on bail for his role in a violent robbery, 7News has learned.
In June of 2015, Mickey Rivera, 22, was charged with armed assault with intent to rob, attempted armed/masked robbery, conspiracy armed/masked robbery, and witness intimidation/misleading police.
His bail was set at $35,000. The next year, Rivera asked to have his bail reduced, but the judge denied it. Rivera’s lawyer asked again in 2017, and a judge reduced his bail to $1,000.
The Bristol County District Attorney released a statement that reads: “I was very disappointed the court reduced the defendant’s bail so drastically, based on the defendant’s criminal record and the serious nature of the charges.”
Dinan said he is outraged over the fact Rivera was out on the road. “Another case of a guy that shouldn’t even be out on the street, I mean this has got to stop…” he said.
Rivera faced other charges from March 2015 that included armed and masked home invasion, armed assault, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
The DA’s office said the charges were eventually dropped because of identification issues.
