State Police have cited a driver for a crash that caused severe delays Thursday morning in the O’Neill tunnel.

Thomas Wells, 52 of Saugus, was cited following the incident. The crash was caused by a car changing lanes and then striking the rear of a school bus.

The video indicates that the bus is turned sideways and then crashes into the tunnel wall. Traffic immediately came to a standstill as the bus blocked several lanes of traffic.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, A Lexus RX350 SUV was the vehicle involved in the crash.

Wells said he fell asleep at the wheel.

The bus operator is a 60-year-old Randolph man. Massachusetts State Police are investigating the crash. No kids were on the bus.

All lanes were closed at one point, backing up traffic across the Zakim bridge.

No one was hurt and none of the cars forced to suddenly stop crashed into each other.
