BEVERLY, MASS. (WHDH) - A driver is reportedly OK after their vehicle plunged into the water near a bridge connecting the cities of Beverly and Salem.

Police and fire crews responded after receiving reports of a vehicle entering the water by the Kernwood Bridge late Tuesday night.

According to Salem Police, the driver was able to free himself after his SUV went through some brush and then a parking lot before heading over an embankment and ending up in the river.

Authorities said the driver was alone at the time of the incident and was OK following the watery, off-road crash.

Crews could be seen wading through the water during the late night hours as they worked to remove the vehicle.
