ABINGTON, MASS. (WHDH) - A driver narrowly escaped her car before it was hit by a Commuter Rail train in Abington on Sunday, officials said.
Officials say nearby fire crews rushed toward the woman to get her attention, helping her escape just before the car was hit by the train.
“The guys took off running and immediately realized there was no way to get there in time,” said Deputy Fire Chief Jack Glynn. “Bystanders and crews were able to distract her enough to get her away from the car … [the train] narrowly missed her, by feet.”
There were no reported injuries. The woman was charged with driving while under the influence.
