The driver of a car that was nearly struck by a tire on Route 128 on Tuesday says he feels lucky to be alive.

“Just a freaky, freaky, crazy thing,” said Jon Eacrett, of Dracut, whose car was nearly struck by the tire. “It all just happened so fast.”

Eacrett was driving on Route 128 on Tuesday when a tire on a pickup truck came flying off, flew over his car and hit another car that was behind his.

The tire’s impact killed a 26-year-old Lexington man who was driving.

Eacrett, a 70-year-old father of three boys, lamented on how fragile life can be.

“I feel very fortunate. I really do. Very fortunate to be alive,” said Eacrett.

Eacrett says his thoughts are with the victim’s family.

State Police are investigating how the wheel came off the truck.
