BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) — An elderly man killed during a large Barnstable fire has been identified.
The Cape Cod Times reports 86-year-old Owen Duff Sr. suffered from asphyxiation from prolonged exposure to the flames Friday night.
Duff Sr. was an accomplished pianist and businessman who once owned a printing paper business.
Fire crews responded to a widespread fire in the 19th century wooden home and found Duff Sr. unconscious by the front door. He was transported to Cape Cod Hospital, where he died.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire officials say the fire was difficult to extinguish due to the home’s size. Property records show the house is 2,846 square feet.
