Fire crews were called to the scene of a massive building fire in Dorchester where at least one person has been injured and transported to the hospital.

Crews rushed to the fire on 87 Sawyer Avenue in the Savin Hill neighborhood for a building fire. Heavy smoke could be seen for miles away.

Crews assisted firefighters due to the extreme heat while battling the blaze. The fire burned so hot it melted the side of the home next door.

The fire likely began on the first floor of the building. There was one resident who lived on the first floor and has been accounted for.

The building is a large multi-family home and has been heavily damaged. The fire has displaced at least 10 people.

According to the fire commissioner, the fire could cost an estimated $500,000 in damage.

Neighbors saw the nearby fire as construction workers at a nearby project jumped into action and alerted residents.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
