LYNN, MASS. (WHDH) - Authorities say a 16-year-old student was stabbed at Lynn Classical High School in what police believe was an isolated incident.

The Lynn Police Department said the victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in the back Wednesday morning.

Police also arrested a 17-year-old male student after responding, stating in a news release that he had been “initially charged with Assault to Murder and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon on School Grounds.”

“This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no information that would indicate a danger to any other students,” the department stated in an update.

“I saw a kid running, like, sprinting – it wasn’t like a run, it was sprinting, and he had blood on the back of his shirt,” high school student Andrew Moore told 7NEWS. “I’d seen the blood on the floor, too. It was weird – it’s kind of stressful to be honest. I’ve got work later today and I don’t know if I’m going to be able to go in.”

“In the beginning, everyone was screaming to get inside, into the rooms, and then we just stayed in there for a while – it was calm,” said Christopher Orelliana, another student who described how the high school entered lockdown for a time.

The teen victim was quickly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

By noontime, the rest of the student body was dismissed from the high school, with some students telling 7NEWS that they were feeling better after the incident when a video of the injured student circulated, featuring him in the in the hospital saying that he was doing better.
