PEMBROKE, MASS. (WHDH) - The town of Pembroke has instated an emergency water ban requesting that residents immediately cease unnecessary usage due to low water levels.
Pembroke said that the ban will remain in effect until further notice and that unnecessary water use will result in fines.
Officials said they were experiencing severely low water levels, discolored water, low water pressure for residents, businesses and the Fire Department. The strain on the reserve levels, according to the town, are seriously impacting their ability to provide water and the pressure required to drive it, particularly in the event of an emergency.
Unnecessary water use includes washing cars, watering lawns, filling swimming pools, and other potentially wasteful activities.
Pembroke had previously requested that residents decrease water use to avoid the water emergency they are now experiencing, but water usage remained high.
