Endicott College campus police officers will soon carry side arms as part of a plan to provide the safest campus possible, the college announced on Monday.

According to the release, the majority of feedback from parents, students and faculty supported the decision.

In addition to arming officers, the school has developed protocols for assaults, active shooters, bomb threats and chemical hazards.

Sworn police officers who will be armed have successfully completed a Massachusetts Reserve Police Academy program.

The arming process will begin sometime in late spring and will be phased in over the next 12 months.
