SOMERSET, Mass. (WHDH) — A heated debate in Somerset.
State and local police arrested dozens of environmental activists for trespassing at a rally.
About 400 people from New England showed their disgust, over a coal-fired power plant.
Protesters carried models of wind-mills and solar panels, on the power plant's property.
Many of them went to the demonstration knowing they would end-up in handcuffs.
"I'm a licensed professional in Massachusetts…a chemical engineer. This will be my first arrest. I feel strongly enough about issue that I'm willing to risk the consequences of arrest,” said Bob Morrison of Sudbury.
In a statement, the owners of the power plant say it's one of the cleanest electricity generators of its kind and that it’s in compliance with all environmental regulations.
