CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — Authorities say an escaped inmate from New Hampshire has been found and arrested in Virginia.

State police said 42-year-old John Mesquita Sr., an inmate at the Community Corrections Transitional Work Center in Concord, escaped from custody on Jan. 23. He was serving a sentence after being convicted of armed robbery, second-degree assault, felon in possession of a dangerous weapon, and several other offenses.

Police tracked Mesquita to Virginia, where he was taken into custody without incident on Friday. Mesquita is currently being held at a correctional facility in Virginia awaiting arraignment and extradition back to New Hampshire. It wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer.
